Thunder Valley MX in Lakewood, Colorado will break new ground this weekend with the first-ever nighttime AMA Toyota Motocross Championship event. Here are a few things we can tell you for sure…

  • If the weather for Saturday matches Friday night’s practice session, the temperature for racing and spectating is about as perfect as you can get.
  • The lighting is impressive, especially around the edges of the track, but there are a couple spots towards the middle where the light is a little thin. We hear that they’re looking at making additional adjustments for Saturday night.
  • With the long days of summer, there should be plenty of light for the first couple motos. Maybe only the last MX1 moto will be held in near darkness.
  • There are lots of riders returning from injuries. Paul Carpenter, Josh Grant, Trey Canard are among the notables. Mike Brown is back from the GP wars in Europe, and Sean Collier (who had a top five finish in the first moto at Hangtown) is also racing this weekend.
