Vital Holiday Gift Ideas, Rd. 1

Are you wracking your brains for some holiday gift ideas for the motocrosser in your life? Over the next few weeks we’ll be digging up some ideas of things you can use put a little extra braaap in your gift-giving.

For the MXer Who Has Everything

We’d just about guarantee that they don’t have an original 11 x 14 print of one of these photos. MX for Children is a charity that helps raise money for the Seattle Children’s Hospital, and they recently called for submissions from some of the top motocross photographers, both past and present. There’s also something for everyone in here, from the grizzled old vets (Michael Stusiak’s cool photo black and white photo of Roger DeCoster in his Suzuki days and Fran Kuhn’s image of Danny Chandler winning aboard his Factory Honda), to current champions like Grant Langston and Ricky Carmichael.

Chances to get original prints like this don't come up often, so we'd suggest you pounce on it. Besides, it's for a good cause.

This is something where you have to act quickly, though. They’re listed as eBay auctions which are scheduled to end on December 3rd, 2007. That gives you time to have them framed (most aren’t, though there are a few in the auction which are framed and signed).

For Vet Riders (And the Over-21 crowd)

Generations of Sonoma did a very limited run of their Highway 12 2005 Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for the gang at the Epic Ride TV show, where they celebrated Brad Lackey’s 25th Anniversary of his 1982 500cc World Championship. Troy Lee Designs did the label design for the “Bad Brad Cab,” and bottles are $32 each. We know some people who have sampled the result, and they suggest that it could make the holiday season merrier. Click the following link to visit their site.

If wine’s not their thing, you might also consider the DVD set for the movie One Chance To Win, Which chronicled the 1975 500cc U.S. National Championship, and the climactic final race dubbed “The Battle of New Orleans.” The set includes the original documentary, and also a “making of” DVD done by the producers of The MX Files, which gets more of the back story from each of the riders, like Jimmy Weinert, Brad Lackey, Steve Stackable, Pierre Karsmakers and more. The interesting part is that most of them still get fired up about that race more than 30 years later. Even for younger riders, the concept of two-strokes, 40-minute motos, and no semis for the race teams will be eye-opening.

If you want to enhance it even further, after you’ve watched the original documentary, you can check out Bob Hannah’s roast from between the two flicks that took place at the Premiere of the movie earlier this fall.

If you just want to order, check here.
