Super Spoiler: Unadilla 2010 4

Ryan Dungey came away with a 1-1 day, and is zeroing in on another title.

Other than the season-opener at Hangtown, this may have been the most interesting Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship round so far this year...and certainly provided plenty of bench racing fodder. You had the return of James Stewart (San Manuel / Yamaha / JSE) to racing, following his broken wrist suffered early in the Supercross season, and it was also his return to the outdoor series after an 18-month layoff. He looked fast in practice, and finished third in the first moto, before riding a few laps of moto two and packing it up for the day.

It was great to see James Stewart back in action after a long layoff, and Unadilla looked better than ever.

Then there was the announcement of Team USA for 2010, where Ryan Dungey, Trey Canard, and Andrew Short will represent the U.S. at the Motocross of Nations at Thunder Valley in Lakewood, CO this September.

Clement Desalle is very, very fast, and very smooth.

We also had Clement Desalle (Teka/Rockstar/Suzuki) visiting from the GP series, and the MX1 star showed that he has more than enough speed to compete with the top riders here. But at the end of the day it was Ryan Dungey (Rockstar Makita Suzuki) who took another overall with a 1-1 day, and he's now extended his points lead to over 100 points, which means at this point, he could wrap up the title as early as the second moto at Southwick in two weeks.

Clement Desalle and Ryan Dungey, dicing at Unadilla.

On the 250 side, the big news was Christophe Pourcel (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) and his crash in moto one. The resulting DNF, along with a first moto win by Trey Canard allowed Trey to cut into more than half Pourcel's once substantial series points lead, taking it from 38 points to 16. Pourcel also bounced back in moto two to take the win.

Dean Wilson (108) got the second moto holeshot on his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, shadowed by Trey Canard (38) and his GEICO Powersports Honda.

Then you had Justin Barcia (GEICO Powersports Honda) agressively taking over the lead from Dean Wilson (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) in the first moto...but then handing over to Canard after a crash on his own. Needless to say, it made for plenty to talk about.

Christophe Pourcel bounced in the first moto, which resulted in a DNF, but bounced back in the second moto.

We'll have more photos and blow-by-blow description in our Photo Blast, later today. But for now, here are the results from Unadilla.
