Spy Photos: New Yamaha Exhaust
The Toyota/JGRMX/Yamaha crew are doing some testing to get prepped for the Monster Energy Cup, and we spied something interesting on one of their bikes. It's apparently a new design from Yamaha (and built by FMF) that wraps nearly around the cylinder. This design allows them to remove the tornado section under the seat like on the stock bikes, and also move the muffler forward quite a bit. A shield at the front keeps the pipe and radiator hoses separated.

I think you may be on to something Henderson, check out the red switch near the throttle on the bottom picture...

I think that's an A/B switch for different mapping.

If it was my turn to guess, by removing the cyclone you are creating space. Creating space for electric start that is...

All you engineers speculating about weight distribution is comical.. I'm sure the exhaust is made of iron so you get maximum CG transfer forward, thus resolving the yamaha "wiggle".. HAHAHA
I'm not that smart, but my guess is it gets the heat off the rear shock and slightly increases the overall length of the header which changes the acoustics of the engine. Header length and diameter alters the HP/torque curve of the engine.

I wasn't going to try and get in front of some mass hysteria.
I hear there's also a Dubach version of this, but they've opted to re-route the clutch cable.

I still think they are going to have heat issues ....now wrapped around the cylinder and still close to the shock at first, it is a very cool design that I was wondering why they haven't tried yet. It might put just enough bite on the front end to eliminate the "wiggle" and make the home handle a little more normal....my guess? This is something that will be incorporated into the design of the NEW bike yamaha is planning for an release for the bike at the start of the outdoors...... I can't wait to see an updated version of this bike FINALLY. Yamaha is so slow when it comes to new bikes. I just read that the 99-13 yz250's are basically the same bike geometry and engine wise ...... There have been a few important changes but riding a 99 w current suspension you could pull it off and be on essentially the same bike w/o an aluminum frame

i'm confused why it's taken so long for this to happen full stop.

maybe develop a new muffler where the cyclone used to be and just have a small tail pipe sticking out?

The extra weight on the front coupled with a flux capacitor will calm down the Yamaha.
See James, it was the bike. Oh hang on you still crashed, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Seriously it looks trick.

The 3rd and 4th pic are two different bikes. Look at the hub color.

That pic of Brayton is awesome! Bike and gear color is bad ass.

All that wrapping around the head and the pipe still sticks out that far?!??! What the hell... Why not wrap it around, still do the cyclone and then at least move the exhaust in a bit, looks like it's still halfway down the fender! On the plus side, One and Oakley has Brayton looking sweeet!!!!

Great idea, modified from Martin Honda's HRC bikes. That's what I thought I saw on the photo from last week. Keep some of that heat away from the shock. Still prefer the piece of pipe resonators. Don't like that goiter lookin' tobacco can. Maybe they can bring back Skoal into MX.

Ha...reminds me of when I saw Magoo borrow a pinch from a fan at the USGP at Carlsbad one year. "Skoal brother..."
