Andrew Short  (Team Chapparal Honda) was the early leader in moto one, and James Stewart (Team Yoshimura Suzuki Racing) quickly took over the lead.

If anyone had any doubts about James Stewart's speed or fitness, they can probably put them to rest. He was on cruise control, and had a lead of up to 12 seconds in this one.

Mike Alessi  (MotoConcepts) used his starting prowess to grab the holeshot in the second moto, and led for two laps before James Stewart took over.

Ryan Dungey (Red Bull/KTM) was third in the first moto behind Stewart and Davi Millsaps (Toyota/JGRMX/Yamaha), and second in moto two for second overall.

Ken Roczen  (Red Bull/KTM ) was on fire in the first moto, taking over the lead from Justin Barcia (GEICO Honda) on lap five, and looking like he had the win on lock.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Blake Baggett had other plans in the first moto. He'd started fifth, and methodically worked his way to the front, and passed both Justin Barcia and Ken RoczenJustin Barcia was solid all day, and ended up with a 3-2 score for second overall.

With the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki 250 riders either hurt (Darryn Durham was out before the season started, and defending champ Dean Wilson's out for shoulder surgery after Hangtown), moved to other teams (Tyla Rattray was riding as a fill-in for Monster Energy Kawasaki's injured leader, Ryan Villopoto), or doing fill-in roles (Ivan Tedesco), the weight of the championship hopeful role falls squarely on Blake Baggett's shoulders. He responded big-time at Hangtown.

Ashley Fiolek (Team Honda Muscle Milk ) grabbed the holeshot to start the first moto. She and Jessica Patterson traded the lead back and forth, and Ashley took the first moto win. A crash in the second moto relegated her to fifth in that one, and a second overall for the day.

Jessica Patterson  (Rockstar Energy Suzuki) went down while leading in the second moto. She remounted quickly, but was windmilling her left arm, and it was obvious that she was trying to pop her shoulder back into place.

The biggest surprise of the women's action was the win in the second moto by Australian Meghan Rutledge. It's good to see another fast woman in the mix, though Meghan's not sure how many races she'll be doing here.Jessica Patterson closed near the end, but couldn't catch her...though her second place finish was good for the overall.
