The first-ever visit to the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis produced lots of fireworks, with Austin Stroupe's first win of the season, and an excellent back-and-forth duel between the top two riders in the Supercross standings, Chad Reed and James Stewart.

Austin Stroupe may not have gotten the holeshot in the Supercross Lites main event (that honor belonged to his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate, Christophe Pourcel), but he definitely rode a good race, taking over the lead on lap three and holding on to finish just over a second ahead of Pourcel.

Actually, he was a bit lucky to be able to ride at all. It took two attempts to start the Lites main event. The first round was red-flagged after a huge first turn pileup that included Stroupe, and Stroupe suffered some pretty nasty burns from a hot exhaust as he was in the melee.

While he may have suffered his first defeat of the '09 Supercross Lites East series, Christophe Pourcel still has a healthy ten-point lead over Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Nico Izzi, who kept his string of podium appearances alive in Indy, with a third-place finish.

The best battle of the night was the heavyweight slugfest between Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Chad Reed and San Manuel / Yamaha / JSE's James Stewart. The two had already battled in their heat race (advantage Stewart), and they did the same in the main event. Reed grabbed the holeshot and led for several laps as Stewart was closing. But Stewart slid out the front end in a flat left-hander, and had to start all over again in his quest to catch the Aussie. Stewart was able to take the top spot at about the three-quarter mark of the race, but Reed kept the pressure on, and once again, a small mistake (and fast remount) by Stewart gave the lead to Reed. He hung on to the finish, grabbing his first win of the season, and once again tying up the points lead.

The battle will continue next weekend in Daytona, and if it's anything like this week's race, it'll be quite show.
