The 2006 edition of the Daytona Supercross might have been a bad dream for James Stewart after crashing out of the lead, but '07 was the stuff dreams were made of. He took an easy win in both his heat race and main event, avoided the drama of last week, all while adding another five points onto his AMA series points lead.
Ricky Carmichael came into Daytona with a realistic shot at another win in his second-to-last Supercross, but he was just a hair slow out of the gate in the main event, and by the time he'd worked his way past Grant Langston, Kyle Lewis, and Kevin Windham, Stewart had already checked out.
Stewart's closest pursuer in the AMA point standings, Chad Reed, finished third on the night.
In the Lites class, Ben Townley had a relatively easy race, once he got by Andrew McFarlane, who'd grabbed the holeshot. Despite a DNF in the first round in Atlanta, Ben's now only six points out of the series lead, behind Yamaha of Troy's Ryan Morais, and his own teammate, Darcy Lange.
Team Honda's Tommy Hahn came home in second spot, his best finish since joining the red team, and a huge step forward from the 18th and DNQ that he'd posted from the two prior rounds.
Mike Alessi rounded out the Lites podium, also posting his best result of the season.
