2007 AMA National MX Championship: Freestone

Freestone was an all-new venue in the AMA National series, which made it a level playing field for both rookies and veterans. But both Ryan Villopoto and Grant Langston extended their respective points leads, with only two motos remaining in the 2007 season.

In the AMA Motocross class, Andrew Short took his Honda 450 to the first moto win, and looked set to win the second moto as well, but he got cross-rutted and went down, eventually finishing with a 1-5 score. Grant Langston spent part of the day battling with Mike Alessi, but had the speed to finish ahead of him in both motos, and he now has an eight-point lead heading into the final race.

Ryan Villopoto was perfect on the day aboard his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, with a 1-1 score. His closest pursuer, his teammate Ben Townley, had problems with a crash early in the first moto, that had him scrambling through the pack on a track that was often-described as, "hard to pass on." Coming back to sixth as he did was impressive, but his 6-2 score allowed Villopoto the opportunity to extend his lead, like he'd done the week before at Steel City.
