My illustrious mx career began in 1986. I was going to turn pro. Then it all came crashing down around me. That fateful day in ’86 is still difficult to talk about. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was about 10ft out of the gate in my very first moto when I realized I totally sucked. I’ve been trying for over 20 years to repair that suckiness that has plagued my career, to no avail. I suck now more than I did back then. I think it spread or something. At least I found out early in my career. Some guys ride around forever without fully realizing the depth of their suckiness. I still race or ride every weekend and it’s just as much fun as it was over two decades ago when I first started, maybe more so. This summer my 6 year old son DJ started riding on his CRF 50; with my Daughter Jenna soon to follow in his footsteps. I just hope my suckiness isn’t genetic. -Derrin
