About Me

I started riding motorcycles in 1962, but didn't start riding dirtbikes until 1973. I took my Senior trip in 1966 with the Marine Corps with a stop in Vietnam. After a few years of partying and some college, I started racing in 1974 when I was living in Little Rock. At the ripe old age of 29, I got my AMA Pro license and headed to the Florida Winter Series armed with AMA #405. It was 1977. Over the next ten years, I lived in Memphis, West Palm Beach, San Jose, Oklahoma City and Fort Worth chasing the dream. I worked as an aircraft mechanic to support my racing habit. In 1982, I went to Belgium and raced International MX for several months. I went back to France in 1984, but broke my foot at the second race. I got married in 1984 and started my MX journey all over again with my stepson racing PW 50s. He got his license in 1994 and we hit the road again with AMA #957. After moving to backwoods Arkansas, we started teaching motocross schools to offset his racing expenses and now have mx camps too. I promoted my first LL qualifier in 1983 and now promote three each year in AMA District 19. My wife has been employed by the AMA National Arenacross Series since 1990 and I have been a pit steward, finish line flagger, banner hanger, equipment operator, referee, announcer and just about anything else they asked me to do. Now I'm starting all over again with two grandkids that race. My granddaugter, Hannah is eleven and has a new KTM 85. My grandson Bob is six and has a new KTM 50. Living the dream for the third time. Three years ago, I supported several riders on the AMA AX tour and it has evolved into Team Dirtbikemike. Now at the young age of 61, I'm ready to get back to training for the Vet World Championship in November. I had prostate cancer in 2006 and had it removed. Then I had to go through seven weeks of radiation treatment last fall. My training program is back on my mind and I hope to make a few big races this fall. Branson and the Vet World are on my menu. My 2007 KXF450 is ready to go. You can find us on the web at www.dirtbikemike.com
