About Me
I'm a life long moto-enthusiest with more than 35 years of riding and racing under my slightly widening belt (damn you middle age!) I'm also the very proud father of 4 wonderful children ranging in age from 15-26 and have been married to the lovely Kathy for 20 (!) years. I love all things motorcycle but moto is my true passion. I raced Pro in Canada in the early 80's but alas, wine, women and song got the better of me so my "career" was a short one. In 1998 I started a motocross club in my city and ran the whole deal (including building and maintaining the track) until extreme burnout sent me packing. I spend my spare time riding with my youngest son Keenan, doing a bit of fishing and moderating the DMXS forums and chat. That's it.

Terry, this is my response to the "punks..." thread. I figured I'd post it here being as the mob would probably tear it up.
A lot of people are lashing out at JLaw for the same reasons they lashed out at Michael Vick. Its ENVY. The American public has this fascination right now with building people up and loving seeing them fall from grace so they can feel better about there lives.
Jason Lawrence has issues. Hell, most of us do. And he's in a situation (because of his immense talent) where those issues are compounded by the pressures and spotlight of his profession. He's dealing with the issues poorly no doubt as drugs (including alchohol) are not the answer. But is he that different from most of America?
Shit, he's no different than most the atheletes you root for. Everyone has a personal life that most dont get to see. If you think he's the first hero of yours to use drugs, get in serious trouble, or simply enjoy a lil mischief....uhh no....sorry. Just because the others dont get caught doesnt mean it doesnt go on or that they are any better than JLaw. Ive yet to meet one pro athelete or entertainer (and Ive been around a few) who didnt push the limits. Its part of that personality type, its a way to cope with the pressures that most dont endure in their day to day lives. Learning to balance everything out takes a lifetime and most never do.
But really though, who are any of us to judge? Yes, its a damn shame. I feel for the kid tho. Especially knowing that he's got issues that he cant battle on his own. And unless youve been there, you might not know what Im refering too. If you think him getting fired is the worst thing going on in his life youre mistaken. All the problems were see'in play out in the press are merely symptoms to an issue thats far worse than getting kicked off tour.
All joking aside maybe a stint of celebrity rehab wouldnt be the worst thing in the world. Someone like Dr. Drew would do wonders for this kid. Would he loose his mischievious side? Would he come out less entertaining in his post-race interviews? No. But some time with a doctor would help him with whatever issues are at the root of the problem.
Everyone has issues, everyone is forced to deal with them a different way given the situations they are in. We all make mistakes. Maybe yours havent been plastered all over the net. I know Im no saint, and Ive missed opportunities in life that I wish I could have back, and Im not the only one.
We should be rooting for this kid to get in treatment, not as fans because he's one of the great talents to ever come along, but just as human beings.
Like I said, I became a fan because the kid is a breath of fresh air. Everyone likes to root for Spicoli. Im as dissapointed as the next fan, but the kid needs help, not hundreds of keyboard cowboys bashing the shit out of him as its no secret he reads these boards.
Kicking the kid while he's down is the equivalent of all the idiots who were happy when Bubba hurt his knee. Its one thing to play armchair QB and judge him as an athelete, cuz none of us are pretending to be RC here. But to judge him as a person, when most here dont even know him, as if everyone here is a saint, just aint right.
But then again, this is VitalDrive. -

Trying to decide if I want to go race this weekend. I haven't been on my bike in a few months, but it's supposed to be sunny and 65 on Sunday. I may have to go school some of the young whippersnappers...
