Pirelli’s SCORPION MX™ Proves to be the Weapon of Choice at the Grand Prix of Europe for FIM Motocross World Championship in Valkenswaard

Paulin Returns to Victory in the MXGP Class After a Long Hiatus, but Gajser Maintains Championship Lead; Jonass Dominates the MX2 Class and Extends Points Lead

VALKENSWAARD, Netherlands (April 24, 2017)– A week after the spectacular race inArco di Trento, riders of theFIM Motocross World Championshipwere involved in theGrand Prix of EuropeatValkenswaard. Featuring sandy soil, which becomes hard on the bottom during the races, the Dutch track is one of the most demanding of the championship. Pirelli's riders were able to rely on the excellent performance of theSCORPION™ MX SOFT rearand SCORPION™ MX32 ™ MID-SOFT front, allowing the Italian brand to win in all categories and to monopolize the podium inMXGP. Pirellidominated theMXGPclass by placing riders in the top-10 positions. Thanks to a first and a second place finish, the victory belonged toGautier Paulin. A fantastic second place went to Jeffrey Herlingswho has finally left behind the injury to his hand that slowed him down in the first races of the season.Jeremy Van Horebeekfinished third in front ofAntonio Cairoli, winner of qualifying and Moto 2 but unlucky in the Moto 1, andTim Gajser. The Slovenian kept the red plate in the championship standings with a 14-point advantage over the eight-time World Champion Cairoli.

Pauls Jonass won bothMX2races and extended his lead in the championship to 19-points overJeremy Seewer who was second in Valkenswaard. It was also a good race forThomas Kjer Olsenwho, despite a fall in Moto 1 managed to end the Grand Prix in fourth place. Julien Lieber rode brilliant to take second in Moto 1, but was forced to retire from Moto 2 due to bad luck. He sits third in the championship standings.

Pirellialso had success in the European divisions that competed inValkenswaard with the world championship.Mikkel HaarupinEMX125andMiro ShivoneninEMX250 won the races and are in the lead in their respective championships.

In two weeks time, riders will be engaged in the seventh round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, theGrand Prix of Latvia, which will be held on the track ofKegums.
