About Me

I raced in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, Idaho) starting in 1980. I began with a 1980 YZ 80. Raced a 1981 YZ in 81 and 82. Then in 1983 I went to Kawasaki's and had a modified '83 Pro Circuit KX 80 in 83 and 84. In 1985 I bought a new bike (KX 80) and raced it stock except for a DG Pipe and Silencer and used my '83 modified bike as a back-up . In 1986 I raced Yamaha 125's (dad bought two of them). I modified those 86 bikes with Pro Circuit engines and DG pipe and Silencers and had mixed to solid results in the Intermediate class, winning a few, but had a lot of mechanical isues and a few big get-offs that season. In 1987 I got a 1985 YZ 250 so I could race both classes. That bike had a ton of horsepower, but the suspension was terrible. I pulled a lot of holeshots with it and did well on smoother and faster tracks. I did not race any full series in 1988 and 1989 to focus on sports, but hit my local track all Spring and Summer consistently. I was number 599 (AMA) on 80's and in 1986 through 1989 on my 125's. In 1990 I became (AMA) number 331 on my Suzuki 125 and 250. In 1990 I got the itch to go at it full-time again and I went to Suzuki's and raced 125 and 250 class at the imtermediate level for one local (regional) 7 race series then moved to expert level the rest of the season. Started winnng consistently at expert level locally and finishing top five regionally and moved to professional in 1991 (racing the 125 only). I qualified for the Washougal National that year but my bike quit on the starting line and I never saw another National gate (nor did I attempt one). I won my last professional race (locally) I rode in the summer of 1991, sold the bike right after that race. In Fall of 1991 I gave up racing to concentrate on a college and professional baseball career. Some of my best memories are racing against the likes of Lowell Thompson, Larry Ward, Brian Thompson, Rick Simmet, Paul Winn, Jeff Dailey, Ryan Huffman, Jason McCormick, Butch Smith, John Calhoun, Jamie Munson, David Foster and others. I loved riding and my dad raced professional flat track / cross country / motocross (they did it all back in the day) for several years. He put me on my first bike when I was 3 years old (fat tire lawn mower engine mini bike). Then I graduated to a MR50. Great memories of day dreaming while reading motocross magazines, Cycle News and especially Minicyle back in the day. Mouse McCoy, Larry Brooks, Bruce Bunch, Paul Denis, and the So Cal boys were always in that magazine. Man were those the days!!!
