I always chamfer the holes over the exhaust bridge.

Added reply in a thread Best yz 250 mods 12/11/2014 5:55 AM

Do some research, best mod I've seen is re-adjusting the squish to around .040 to .045. Then it might be a little safe to run on pump gas with a strong and linear low to mid transition.

Our friends that we've raced with for the last 7 years could easily disprove that statement. They've raced 250f's to where we've raced 2 strokes. And yet they try to bypass major engine work by selling the bikes after 6 months to a year. A big hit on ... more »

Added reply in a thread Guy here trying gp road race mods on a yz 125. 12/5/2014 4:04 PM

Something to be said about this if you can find a happy medium. I guess you could say Jake's YZ 250 cylinder is getting some road race type mods to it right now. Some welding a lot of epoxy and great understanding of air movement should make big improvements. ... more »

Adjust float height a hair, it can cause a lean condition also. Usually from my little knucklehead emptying the bowl by revving in the air. How I found out and little adjustment helped a lot. That and threatening his little ass helped too! LOL

I knew that just saying Jason built probably a better track at FTT than WW . But hotels, travel distance and dining are better around WW.

Added reply in a thread New Florida track 12/3/2014 9:45 AM

WW Ranch IMHO is setup better logistically, this place is more of an off roader's Disney World. Not to say Dream Traxx creation isn't up to that standard. Just the place as a whole is going after a different demographic.

Added reply in a thread Give me an opinion on this top end failure. 12/3/2014 4:33 AM

Yep! Was going to try and use a KTM 250X piston on my YZ so that we had a little more room to widen the transfers. Solid idea but the KTM piston was just a little different that the difference in port timing would have negated what we were trying to ... more »

I'm always skirting on the edge of running too lean but have not had a top end failure from detonation in over 2 years. Fricking Wiseco's with their ring locator pins have got me twice in the last year. And that was with a piston to wall of .0018 and

I find it odd that detno only occurring at intake and ex sides of the piston and not around the remaining perimeter.

So Gorr cut that head not knowing where the piston sat at TDC wow pure magic considering the squish being dead on.

Pull power valve out and check for wear, looks like it made contact with piston. Had a Kawi 112 motor where the pivot pin on the blade style powervalve broke. This let 1/2 of the power valve make contact with piston. Lean or heat I don't think caused ... more »

Picture of the piston including the top. Pics of spark plug and pics of the cylinder down around the transfer ports. And check the squish most importantly.
