Little late to this thread. This is exactly what I'm trying to do with my 2004 KX125. Any chance you could post a picture or two of how you got the front plate to fit?

Sorry I don't have any pictures and no longer have the bike. all that was needed was two little tabs on the lower clamp (reversing the way the old plate goes on. the newer plates have holes on it compared to the old ones that have the tabs.) if that makes sense. Hope that helps!

The fender fits perfectly, the only thing needed for the plate to fit is little tabs on the lower clamp.

some pro circuit a kit forks + triple clamps , and hinson clutch and some aftermarket wheels and this bike would be a wet dream! Still a good looking - great job!
